What is the difference between CMCM and the CNS?

The CNS and the CMCM play important roles in Luxembourg’s healthcare system.

The CNS (Caisse Nationale de Santé) is Luxembourg’s statutory and compulsory health insurance fund. It provides healthcare benefits and reimburses healthcare costs in accordance with legal provisions and social security reimbursement rates.

The CMCM (Caisse Médico-Complémentaire Mutualiste) is a non-profit health mutual. In accordance with its statutes, its purpose is to provide financial support to its members for healthcare costs that are not covered by compulsory health insurance. It therefore complements the benefits provided by the CNS and offers additional healthcare coverage.
